Working Groups

The STA is managed by a board of directors of industry representatives. The Council decide on the direction of the Association and a large portion of the delivery is carried out by the Secretariat team.

The Council of the STA are responsible for the overall direction in which we focus our work and meet quarterly to review progress as well as to make future plans for the course of the Association.

One level down from Council, each Chaired by a Council member and consisting of both Council and non-Council members, key areas of focus are managed by 4 Working Groups, as summarised below:

  • Lobbying Working Group – involved in frequent meetings with key Government bodies including DECC; MCS & EST this team are focussed primarily on bringing about positive change to the solar industry as a whole.
  • Marketing Working Group – as well as coordinating presence of the STA and member companies at leading national events, the MWG also work on marketing of the Association and benefits of this technology through press, publications and websites, editorial content and the publishing of press releases.
  • Technical Working Group – involved in key technical developments within the solar industry including looking at areas such as Legionella growth for solar termal as well as roofing issues for both technologies. Members of the Association are able to view technical papers in the members area of this site.
  • Training Working Group – involved in development and provision of training courses for the installation, design and understanding of solar systems, the TrWG are also working closely with SummitSkills, the Sector Skills Council for Building Services Engineering on developing the solar modules for the new Quality Credit Framework (QCF) to which all recognised courses will have to comply with.
