Case study - Viridian Apartments

Viridian Solar – Islington appartments

Inspace is a social and affordable housing specialist, building over 1,600 new homes a year in a range of projects. Northpoint Islington is a development of 47 flats arranged over six storeys. Fifteen of the flats are for an RSL client, the balance of 32 being available for private buyers.

We were contacted by the main contractor, Inspace Partnership [formally Wilmot Dixons] with their renewable requirements late in the project’s progress. Our design was well received by everybody and will provide the site with 6% of its total energy requirements with a further 2% provided by other renewable technologies.

Solar Twin – The Bourneville Trust

The Shenley redevelopment project utilised part of the original Bourneville estate and involved the demolition of unsuitable, energy inefficient three storey blocks of flats. The initial phase of the redevelopment was completed in early 2005 and provided the community with 54 new homes, shops and large medical centres, in a landscaped environment.

 

 


 

Photon Energy – City South Manchester Housing Trust

Photon Energy recently completed the installation of 45kWp of photovoltaic (PV) systems on four 10 storey tower blocks for City South Manchester Housing Trust. Working in conjunction with Wates, the installations were part of a £7.5 million refurbishment of the tower blocks.

AES - International School of Aberdeen

This installation is designed to provide hot water for the 370 pupils and 105 staff, of the International School of Aberdeen. The system was specified to be an addition to the schools current boiler system, leaving the current control system in place

Photon Energy recently completed the installation of a 15.8 kWp photovoltaic (PV) system at Oxford Grange, a sheltered housing block in Gomersal near Leeds, for Kirklees Neighbourhood Housing (KNH). Rather than using a standard bolt-on mounting system, solar tiles were used to replace conventional roof tiles.

Riomay – Upwell Park Retirement Complex

In July 2011, Riomay Renewable Energies undertook the design and installation of Solar PV systems on the 67 retirement homes located in a retirement home in March, Cambridgeshire.  The 2kWp system on each of these properties consisted of 8 ZNShine  250W panels.

Vaillant – Halton House

Vaillant has supplied Halton Housing Trust (HHT) with a solar thermal heating and hot water system and whole house heating system, as part of a pilot project investigating renewable energy sources and efficient methods of heating sheltered housing.  HHT has been working with Sure Maintenance on the installation, which is located in Wavertree Avenue in Widnes.

Suppliers Mastervolt form deal with Mole Valley Farmers Cooperative

In countries which offer feed-in tariffs for renewable energy, farmers have discovered photovoltaics as a welcome additional source of income. Compared with other energy sources, it can be used flexibly and easily, with minimum impact on the environment. It doesn’t harm the environment, makes no noise, is hardly visible and does not compete with food production. The yields can be easily calculated and little maintenance is required.
