Solar thermal is a key strategic renewable technology that has the potential to play a major role in decarbonising heat in the UK’s domestic and commercial/industrial sectors. Its role will become increasingly significant with time as building fabric improves and hot water represents an increasing share of building energy use, but it’s important to note that solar thermal can also contribute to space heating and industrial process heat, as well as district heating.
There is increasing innovation through engineering renewable technologies together to improve overall outcomes in terms of energy and carbon savings. Solar thermal can be installed together with other renewable heat technologies, enhancing their performance.
