Last Friday (26th May), we conveyed the exciting news that British solar generated more than nuclear for the first-time ever. At midday on that day 8.75GW was generated by solar, supplying nearly a quarter of the UK’s total demand. This was the first time that solar generated more than nuclear, and output was second only to gas. We estimate solar beat nuclear output for three hours.
Solar overtaking nuclear here was a milestone that attracted international interest. From Brussels to Bangkok, our release, including CEO Paul Barwell’s words, were bounced around newsrooms across the world. We want to share the amazing news, so here is just a flavour of those who reported the story. And while we can’t understand some of these languages either, we can all grasp the international celebration of solar’s progress!
